Queens Lane Cottage
The cottage is part of a compound including several structures that have been designed and built by the family over the past 25 years. Each structure speaks to the era in which it was created and this one hadn’t been touched since 1996. The family was in need of a space that would comfortably house one or two guests at a time, and so the interior of the cruciform-shaped plan was gutted and the old layout was opened up and simplified. A wall of custom millwork separates the living area from the bedroom creating a studio-like arrangement. The kitchen and bath were rearranged to respond more thoughtfully to the site—windows were moved and enlarged to enhance daylight and capture views. The result is a very sweet new guest suite on a legacy property that continues to evolve.
